Male judges and some talent

K.E. from Scottsbluff, NE writes, “So are there ever going to be some male guest judges?” (Translation: “Enough, already, with the Shania and Katy eye candy for Ray.”) I will leave it to K.E. to let me/us know if Neil Patrick Harris or Joe Jonas meet whatever criteria she has for determining their entertainment value. I will say that I liked NPH’s critical and take charge manner. And that I am enjoying the theme of professional criticism by all of guest judges in stark contrast to Paula’s gushiness, Kara’s semi-sweetness and Randy’s 150% dawg-ness.

We did get to see more talent this week than past weeks and I noted as noteworthy: big dockworker Lloyd (Stevie Wonder!); Kimberly and Todrick (sang originals), Meagan, and 16-year old Christian who sang Etta James (!) at the end.

I am also wondering how different my daughters' childhood development would have been if Barney had appeared with a Dominatrix.

I want to close with a shout out to my new friend Sheri who is joining the fray posting under Sweetest In the Gale. Diandra and I met her and her daughter at a David Cook concert and we found that we were not the only family with a serious and incurable music addiction. She is also an awesome poet. Check out her work at http://fledglingpoet.blogspot.com/. Welcome, Sheri and I look forward to your always taking my side in the debates this year . . . .

I'm smiling and blushing after reading your post...thanks very much for the shout-out, Ray. :~)

I loved both Katy Perry and NPH as judges...they were awesome! There has been some interesting talent this week...I'm ready for Hollywood week, though. I hope things pick up soon!

I loved NPH....I thought the whole dynamic of that day of auditions was interesting...NPH just took charge. He just assumed the leadership role and the other three seemed to follow. NPH was the one directing decisions and making the "Randy, yes or no", "Kara, yes or no" statements. What can you teach me about type on this one Ray? NT?

Yes, I've been waiting for the men and yes, we did get them this week, but.... What are demographics of Idol? Women 35 and older? So why did we get the boy child Jonas brother? NPH was a start and certainly worth watching. He wasn't Katy Perry, who could easily take Simon's place (and has made it known she'd like to).

May I suggest Richard Gere? Someone in our age group AND he knows music! He plays several instruments, wrote music in high school and college and his first big break was as one of the leads in the 1973 London musical production of Grease. He has since starred in many musicals and music themed movies as well as Broadway productions.

Like the rest of you, I will be happy when we are past this part of the show. I'm already giddy with anticipation for country week!

Good question re NPH's type, Margo. I am guessing TJ as last two letters - setting boundaries; crisp, pointed, matter-of-fact conversation style; and moving things along to a goal. Simon I think is an INTJ so he is much the same but clearly NPH took the lead dog role.

And Karla, it is a sad fact that there is a county week every year. But there is a tradition of my favorites going non-country that week, e.g. Daughtry and Adam. So I will be hoping for the best there again.
